Visit the historically second most important city of the Czech Kingdom, Kutná Hora. Since the early Middle Ages, Kutná Hora has been the site of an incredible amount of silver, which was able to finance the politics of the Czech kings for many centuries. Therefore, there are still many important monuments in the town today, old mines that reach a depth of over 600 metres (approximately 1970 feet), some of which can still be visited today. You can see the medieval mint of King Wenceslas IV, as well as the two cathedrals that were built here in the past, the Cathedral of St. Barbara in Kutná Hora and the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in the village of Sedlec near Kutná Hora. Near this cathedral there is also a famous ossuary. The oldest bones in this ossuary were deposited as early as the 14th century. The ossuary was founded because of the large number of bones that were moved here from the surrounding cemeteries during the late medieval period, when epidemics and wars caused a large number of deaths. The ossuary itself contains not only skeletal remains, but also various works of art and decorations made from the bones.
